Summary:

Muktodhara, written  in 1922, against the backdrop of the Non-Cooperation Movement  initiated by Mahatma  Gandhi, has distinct political overtones, especially  in the  characterization  of Prince Abhijit  and Dhananjay Bairagi. In keeping with Tagore's world-view, however, the thrust is always centrifugal, from the particular to the universal. It is a powerful play presenting the conjunction and clash of two  different  worlds, the poetic-idealistic and the pragmatic.
