Blue Pencil Publishing, as it was known prior to the rebranding, was set up by the late Sujoy Gupta, a renowned corporate biographer, in 2002. It began as a project rooted in family tradition of academic excellence and freedom. Founded as a family-run academic publishing venture, Blue Pencil has now evolved into something more expansive and exciting. What started in our living room with a shared passion for quality academic titles, has blossomed into a dynamic publishing house, dedicated to bringing in a wider repertoire of books to children, youngsters and adults.

We have transformed from our academic origins to include wider interests and diverse voices, to capture multicultural nuances and vernacular traditions. We are specialising in literary translation (for now from Bangla into English) and the publication of bilingual editions. Our new avatar, Blue Pangolin Publishing (an ISBN registered publishing house), reflects our core belief that every child deserves access to sensitively crafted stories that speak to his/her heritage, imagination and creativity.​

At Blue Pangolin Publishing, we are not just storytellers stimulating young minds. We intend to remain at the cutting-edge of publishing in social and cultural studies including contemporary literary and non-fictional writing. Through our focus on translation from regional languages (to begin with from Bangla) into English, we seek to promote writing that creates understanding across regions, communities and ethnicities.

From the quality of paper to the durability of the binding, every aspect of our production reflects our commitment to crafting a quality product.

Designing Book Covers: We offer the services of specialised book cover designers who can work on a brief provided by an author. They can also create engaging, imaginatively conceptualised covers compatible with content and author intention.

Our Areas of Expertise
 

Children’s Books: Books for our youngest readers that need to be illustrated. Stories that inspire and educate. Captivating chapter books for growing children and young adults.

Literary Translations: Translations that create an interface with a wider range of indigenous cultures and vernacular experiences in a multilayered society like ours.

Vernacular Language Publishing: We have diversified into publishing books in Bangla. These could be compilations, original manuscripts or reprints of old books outside copyright but relevant enough to be revived. We edit and publish memoirs (often for private circulation only) and travelogues.

Academic Books: We are open to publishing books that address contemporary academic interests in language, society and culture.
