Written  in 1933, the final decade of Rabindranath Tagore's creative work, Tasher Desh eludes  a single, strait-jacketed interpretation. While the play reflects the political and ideological crisis Tagore had been aware of both at home and in his extensive travels at this time in the Western world , it also affirms the humanistic  values of hope and discovery breaking open all conventionally closed doors.
